The Office of General Counsel serves the Board of Trustees, President, Provost, Vice Presidents, Vice Provosts, Deans, and all the other University leaders, faculty and staff in their official capacity and work for Johns Hopkins. The General Counsel’s Office also is responsible for hiring and managing outside counsel to represent the University.

Our attorneys also work closely together with the Johns Hopkins Health System Legal Department on a wide range of legal matters involving Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Legal matters relating to the Johns Hopkins Health System and the Johns Hopkins Hospital are handled by the Johns Hopkins Health System Legal Department. The Johns Hopkins Health System Legal Department also handles medical malpractice claims and addresses HIPAA issues for the University.
